Why This Exists

The Problem with Lisbon Travel Content

Most Lisbon travel blogs are written by someone who visited for a weekend and scraped their “top 10” from other blogs. The recommendations loop endlessly: the same five restaurants, the same Tram 28 advice, the same “hidden gems” that every other site lists. We built Lisbon Itinerary because the city deserves better than copy-paste guides.

Who We Are

Lisbon Itinerary is written and maintained by Rui Carvalho, a Lisbon-based travel researcher who has lived in the city since 2019. Before starting this site, Rui spent four years writing city guides for a European travel publisher and got tired of watching his editors water down honest recommendations to avoid offending advertisers.

Every itinerary, restaurant pick, and transport guide on this site is walked, eaten at, and verified on the ground — then re-audited monthly. The site is operated by Highwinds Technologies, an independent travel content studio with no affiliate partnerships, no sponsored placements, and no hotel booking commissions.

Questions or corrections? Rui reads every message sent through the contact page.

Our Methodology

Every recommendation on this site is walked on foot, every price checked in person, every schedule verified against official sources. We don't rank restaurants by affiliate commission or sort attractions by sponsorship deals.

  • Routes physically walked and timed
  • Prices verified against official sources monthly
  • Restaurant picks based on quality, not commissions
  • Content audited with AI fact-checking + human review

Why Lisbon

Lisbon is a city that rewards curiosity. The miradouros at golden hour, the sound of fado drifting through Alfama, a bifana and a cold beer at a neighborhood tasca — these are the moments that don't show up in algorithmic travel guides. That's what we're here to share.
