Why This Exists

Because Lisbon deserves better than copy-paste guides.

Locally researched

Every recommendation walked on foot. Every price checked in person. No recycled blog content.

Updated monthly

Last verified: April 2026. Prices, hours, closures — all current. Not a 2019 blog post with a new date.

Local perspective

Written by someone who’s missed the last tram at Praça do Comércio. We know what works and what’s a tourist trap.

The Hills Reality Check

Lisbon is gorgeous. Lisbon is steep.

We love this city, but we won't lie to you about the terrain. Here's what every first-timer should know.

1

The cobblestones are no joke

Lisbon's calçada portuguesa is beautiful and treacherous. Bring shoes with actual grip — not fashion sneakers.

2

Tram 28 is a tourist trap

Tram 12E covers Alfama and Mouraria with fewer crowds, though it doesn't match Tram 28's full route. Or just walk — it's faster most days.

3

The hills are real

Alfama to Chiado is a thigh-burner. The elevadores (Bica, Glória, Santa Justa) exist for a reason. Check current funicular status before visiting, as they undergo periodic maintenance.

4

Miradouros reward the climb

Every painful ascent ends with a view that makes you forget your legs. Miradouro da Graça at sunset is mandatory.

5

Budget for pastéis de nata

You will eat at least 3 per day. This is not a suggestion, it's a prediction. At ~€1.50 each, it's your cheapest habit.
